Worker representation systems in the European Union and the accession countries

guide

The guide "Worker representation systems in the European Union and the accession countries" is a joint publication coordinated by ETUC-INFOPOINT and ETUCO, the European Trade Union College with support from the European Commission.

It meets the needs expressed in a number of training courses or conferences on the theme of information and consultation by three particular target groups: members of European Works Councils, trade union organisations in candidate countries and trade union organisations from EU countries.

It consists of two sections: a pedagogical section and an information section.

The pedagogical section breaks down complex national systems into their key components, before comparing them, so as to provide a quick overview and encourage the reading of other relevant documents.
It also contains activity sheets for group work within courses. This section is particularly suited to use in seminars and training courses focusing on mutual understanding of the possibilities and limitations of all the worker representation systems concerned.

The information section consists of three chapters: 1) Types of worker representation in companies in 28 European countries; 2) Resources and operation of these representation bodies and 3) Tasks and powers of these representation bodies.

This publication constitutes a useful training and information tool and will promote a better understanding of company worker representation systems.
