The Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) has existed in its present form since 1945 as a homogeneous, trade union federation with no party ties currently comprising 14 member trade unions. Membership is voluntary and is open to all wage-earning employees (blue- and white-collar workers, civil servants), apprentices, the unemployed, schoolchildren and students as well as freelancers and professionals as long as their work situation compares with that of wage-earning employee.
The ÖGB and the 14 affiliated trade unions have made it their goal to represent in the best way possible the economic, political, social and cultural interests of all workers with respect to the employer, state and political parties. In addition, the efforts of the trade union organisations are directed at offering their members optimal assistance in all questions relating to their working lives.

Main areas of education and training activity

The ÖGB-Department of Education, Leisure and Culture supports all workers‘ representatives by giving them the knowledge, which is important for their job as a worker's representative. The Education Department offers a wide range of courses for workplace representatives from the very beginning of their mandatory to specific education.
Moreover, the Education Department offers all trade union members who are interested, a wide range of events and activities.
