German versionThe Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) has existed in its present form since 1945 as a homogeneous, trade union federation with no party ties currently comprising 14 member trade unions. Membership is voluntary and is open to all wage-earning employees (blue- and white-collar workers, civil servants), apprentices, the unemployed, schoolchildren and students as well as freelancers and professionals as long as their work situation compares with that of wage-earning employee. Main areas of education and training activityThe ÖGB-Department of Education, Leisure and Culture supports all workers‘ representatives by giving them the knowledge, which is important for their job as a worker's representative. The Education Department offers a wide range of courses for workplace representatives from the very beginning of their mandatory to specific education.
